Philosophy and methodology

The original methodology of Tymoteusz Ley and Agnieszka Stach

Trial class

On style

"Words like 'tango salón', 'milonguero' and 'nuevo' have lost their former meaning." What we teach is a methodology developed by Tymoteusz Ley and Agnieszka Stach — the result of body-work experience including martial arts training.

We teach artists, not performers

"We want our students not only to move freely, but to interpret music consciously." We work simultaneously on technique, musical perception, and acting — because tango is not just movement but a conversation of bodies guided by music.

Body awareness, inertia, safety

"A dancer's capability is built from both muscle work and body elasticity." We start with the less intuitive techniques — developing body awareness and a sense of center of gravity. Movement is driven largely by body inertia. Our priority: grounding the work of feet, knees, pelvis, and shoulder girdle in mechanics safe for long-term health.

Our lineage

Our concept of lead-follow as projection of every movement stems from the work of Fabián Salas, Gustavo Naveira, and Chicho Frumboli in the 1980s: "the partner signals the projection of every step or turn, and can have control over every moment of the follower's movement." In pedagogy we also draw on the theory of multiple intelligences, recognising different styles of perception and learning.
